WEEK 1
RESIDENCY OPENING SESSION
Join us for the opening session where the EarthSonic/ In place of War Team - Tom, Roz & Ash - will introduce the programme and what to expect, and be on hand for any questions.
WORKSHOP: ART ACTIVISM: THIS IS OUR PLACE TO DREAM
This workshop session is led by Dan Glass and Shawn Mugisha, and focuses on ‘Creating Beautiful Trouble’ which is a book, a web toolbox and an international network of extraordinary artist-activist trainers and creative campaigners focused on strengthening their connected social movements through sharing the tactics and techniques of game-changing creative activism.
WORKSHOP: INFLUENCING INSTITUTIONS & POWER
This session is led by Trust Chikodzo from Zimbabwe. It uses the #KickTotalOutOfAFCON campaign — a pan-African youth campaign that reached 5 million people and forced a public response from TotalEnergies — as a live case study in how to influence institutions and power through creative campaigning. Rather than a lecture, participants will move through the same strategic thinking that shaped the campaign, building their own campaign framework by the end of the session.
WELLBEING WEDNESDAYS (WEEK 1)
Join us for a drop-in session where the EarthSonic team will set a wellbeing activity for screen-free afternoon.
WORKSHOP: PERFORMANCE, IDENTITY & INTERSECTIONALITY
This workshop is led by Thayù Kilili - an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, creative technologist, filmmaker, writer, and cultural strategist based in Nairobi, Kenya. The session will look at Thayu’s diverse experience and ‘experiments’, via intersectional, safe spaces for change.
WORKSHOP: LAND, BELONGING& NATURE CONNECTION
This workshop is co-delivered by Dave Ojay and Nadia Shaikh. The session will look at environmental connection from two diverse but highly connected contexts and approaches - in the UK and Kenya, and how fostering a sense of belonging to the land is the utmost goal.
WORKSHOP: FRINGE, DIY & SONIC ACTIVISM
This workshop is delivered by musician and activist Martin Atkins, and will explore sound as catalyst for social transformation, and Punk no-budget fringe activism, and exploring music as spaces for community building. Martin will share his approach to screen-printing as activism and the idea of doing something with nothing.
WORKSHOP: Notes on networks & leadership from a seed fund recipient
This workshop is delivered by Finlay Carrol - a development producer with five years experience in theatre. In 2024, he took part in the Creative Agents of Climate Change Programme, and received seed funding to collaborate with artists on a musical about eco-grief. In this session, Finlay will explore how young climate leaders can use networks to overcome obstacles and accelerate their creative projects.
OPEN SESSION
Join us for an open, drop-in session that is purposefully unstructured to allow participants to meet, chat and discuss ideas.
