Common octopus

Our new honorary non-human board member is the common octopus (Octopus vulgaris)!

Octopuses are incredible creatures, with nine brains, three hearts, and blue blood. One of the most widespread octopus species, there has been a dramatic surge in the numbers of common octopus along the South West coast of the UK, linked to climate change. This bloom has been mixed news for the shellfishing community - many have suffered since octopuses feast on crabs and lobsters, while others have cashed in with record hauls of octopuses.

In Place of War gives other species a presence in our board meetings, exploring how they can inspire and teach us, and how human activity impacts their lives.
