Fundraising Dinner 2020

On Valentine's Day 2020, as the sun set over the Hudson River, a group of New York philanthropists, activists and creators gathered at the studio of iconic artist Laurie Anderson to raise funds for In Place of War. During the evening, fellowship awards recognising decades of consistent, high level work using the arts as a tool for advocacy and peace-building were presented to Laurie Anderson and hip hop group Run the Jewels. The awards themselves were handmade by our changemaker Mauricio Cortez Caro from Coporación Talentos Culturizzarte in Medellín, Colombia.

We were treated to a breathtaking performance from Laurie herself, alongside a set from Tunisian singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi. Our changemaker Mambila Mageza from Trackside Creative in Soweto, South Africa joined us to share about his incredible cultural space. The evening was rounded off with an after-party at James Murphy's (LCD Soundsystem) club Night Moves in Brooklyn.

A huge thank you to Laurie Anderson and her team for hosting us so generously, and to Bob Ezrin for all his support in making the event happen and for compering on the night.
