In Place of War Network (2009-2011) In Place of War is pleased to announce that we have recently been awarded a 3 year grant from the Leverhulme Trust to carry on the networking begun by the project from 2004-2008. The grant will enable us to maintain the web site, add to the database, and most importantly, to continue to meet colleagues to discuss the questions and challenges facing theatre practice in places of conflict. The new phase of the In Place of War project centres on establishing a network of theatre practitioners in places of conflict who will meet once per year for three years and who will contribute to the In Place of War Network.
The agreed network partners* are:
In Place of War, University of Manchester, UK
School of Educational and Professional Studies, Griffith University, Australia
Kwoto Cultural Centre, Khartoum, Sudan
Theatre for Everybody, Gaza, Palestinian Territories
MULTIMEDIA Center, Pristina, Kosovo
Centre Lokole - Search for Common Ground, DR Congo
Stages Theatre Company, Sri Lanka Funding from the Leverhulme Trust will support network partners to attend the yearly meetings. The first meeting is planned for Manchester, however, the next two will be hosted by network partners in other countries. The exact places will be decided based on capacity, situation, etc. and all yearly meetings will be open to theatre practitioners local to the meetings and self-funded international practitioners. The key idea of the network is for partners to share work, ideas, experiences and have to opportunity to learn from each other's practice. And so, we hope that partners will serve as satellite organisations to get other local theatre groups involved in the network.
The In Place of War Network will formally be up and running in January 2009. To register your interest in the network or to leave a comment or question, please see the Interactive section of our website.
*more information on each of the network partners is available on our project database, located on the Resources page.
